Tourism sector worried by terror threat
The private sector has called on the government to explain the bomb explosions in central Bangkok yesterday to the foreign media, warning that the tourism industry could be heavily impacted.
Ittipan Khaolamai, head of the Ayutthaya tourism association's public relations service, said on Wednesday that news of the three bomb explosions in the Sukhumvit road area yesterday afternoon had spread throughout the world.
European countries had again warned their citizens of possible terrorist attacks in Thailand, he said. This would have a severe impact on tourism
"The government must quickly explain the situation to the foreign media because if the government is slow with its response, even for a day, it could be too late to get foreign tourists back here," Mr Ittipan said.
In Ubon Ratchathani, police beefed up security measures to head off any possible attacks.
Ubon was one of the towns listed in the travel warning issued by the British government yesterday to its citizens in Thailand in the wake of the bomb explosions in Bangkok.
"You should exercise caution, especially in the cities of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani," the warning said.
Ubon Ratchathani police chief Surapol Kaewkhao said stringent security checks were being carried out on foreign travellers at the provincial airport, train stations, bus terminals, electricity and waterworks offices, and oth er public areas.
"Preparations have been made and if there's a violent incident, a forensic team will be brought in immediately," said Pol Maj Gen Surapol.

该航班是日飞航班，航班号为FD3820/1，由A320机型执飞，全程飞行时间为3小时。曼谷至重庆航班每天的起飞时间是6时20分，10时20分抵达重庆；重庆至曼谷航班每天的起飞时间是11时10分，13时10分抵达曼谷。
亚洲航空公司区域商务总监陈凯霖说，为庆祝新航线开通，该航班推出5000张单程优惠票，优惠价为99元人民币，按当日汇率折合约483泰铢，其中不含机场税和燃油附加费。该优惠票的预订时间为2月9日至14日。陈凯霖表示，优惠期过后，该航班的票价仍会保持「平民价格」。
重庆机场集团公司副总经理曹千里称，重庆机场将为四川、贵州、云南、湖南乘坐该航班的旅客提供一晚免费住宿；全国各地旅客乘飞机到重庆中转至曼谷的旅客，也将享受免费的住宿和往返重庆市区的大巴车票。
重庆市政府口岸办副主任王济光透露，重庆至曼谷直飞航班将加大中国西部地区的开放程度。重庆2011年入境人员达47万余人次，增长速度居中国第一。 2012年重庆口岸将继续呈「井喷式」增长。

Pattaya officials talk green to draw in tourists
An ambitious 10-year plan to make the seaside resort a world class "greenovative tourism city" has been launched by local authorities at a cost of 646.7 million baht.
The money, now being sought from the central government, will fund 34 projects under a development master plan, Mayor Ittipol Khunploem said yesterday.
Mr Ittipol said the projects will come under a scheme called "Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration [Dasta]" and will cover other local adminstrations.
Of the 34 projects, 13 worth 253.7 million baht will cover Pattaya city with the remainder costing 393 million baht involving development projects in nearby areas.
Mr Ittipol said the plan, which runs from 2012 to 2022, envisages Pattaya as a world class "greenovative tourism city".
Last year the cabinet agreed to set aside 15 billion baht to help with the city's plans which seek to improve public transport services and utilities, develop new tourism destinations and amend laws relating to zoning of entertainment venues.
Dasta director Nalikatibhag Sangsnit said the thinking behind the plan is to ensure the city can cope with tourism growth in the next 10 years.
Projections for Pattaya envisage the number of foreign and Thai tourists doubling in the next decade, while tourism revenue is estimated to rise from 68 billion baht to 300 billion baht a year.
Col Nalikatibhag said the cabinet had resolved to turn Pattaya city into a special zone for sustainable tourism.
The plan covers 928.47 square kilometres of Pattaya city and eight other areas: the municipalities of Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Takhian Tia, Pong, Huay Yai and Na Jom Thian, plus tambon Nong Pla Lai and tambon Khao Mai Kaew.

【本报讯】交通部助理部长参察将昨天（2日）表示，交通部决定推出新措施，民众在非交通高峰时间乘坐机场捷运，将获全线20铢优惠票价，该措施是为方便民众快速出行，并减少使用私家汽车。至于BTS和地铁因为是民营企业管理，交通部暂时还无法执行该措施，目前正在与这两家捷运业者协商。
参察表示，交通部决定推出在非高峰时间搭乘捷运计画，将执行全线只收取20铢票价的规定。目前该措施将仅限于机场捷运，至于地铁因为是民营企业管理，所以还无法执行该政策。但交通部将与地铁管理工作就此展开协商，以便让广大民众在乘坐捷运和地铁都享有优惠政策。而该措施何时启动，交通部将再作通报。
上述政策的目的是为了增加非交通高峰期间乘坐捷运交通工具的人数，并将目前所有的设备发挥最大效益。每周一到周五上午6-9时是交通高峰期，每小时的乘客人数达1万6000人次，上午10时-下午3时30分是非高峰期，每小时的乘客在2000-3000人次。乘客平均乘坐5站，费用为25铢。机场捷运线每天的乘客约3万4866人次，机场快线每天的乘客为2451人次。
